EYEAFRICA TV: Luanda, Angola: The fight against corruption and impunity in Angola, in the last Saturday, reached another chapter, with the detention of a general of the reserve when he tried to leave the country. Beto Kangamba, the general, has been investigated since last year.
In a statement, the Attorney General of the Republic of Angola added that in the act of detention, a pistol and amounts of kwanzas and rands (South African currency) were also seized along with General Bento Kangamba – still to be counted.
On its Facebook page, the Angolan portal Club-K says that Kangamba was notified on Friday (28.02.20) by the National Directorate of Investigation and Penal Action of the PGR to provide clarifications in Luanda.
Also according to the portal, in October last year the general had a property in the Angolan capital seized by the court. In turn, Novo Jornal reports that the same measure was applied to the general’s wife, Avelina dos Santos, sister of former President José Eduardo dos Santos.
Bento Kangamba owns the Kabuscorp football club and was the leader of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).
In the past, the general has a history with international judicial authorities. He was even accused of women trafficking by the Brazilian courts and his name was also involved in an investigation in France into the fate of three million euros seized in the south of France and which, allegedly, was aimed at the general, who was in Monaco.
The fight against corruption, impunity and flattery has been the banner of the current government of Angola, with the leadership of Joao Lourenço. Businessmen, politicians and others have been under investigation.
