EYEAFRICA TV: Luanda, Angola: Angola registers the third positive case of the new coronavirus (Covid-19), declared the minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, yesterday in a press conference.
He is a 23-year-old Angolan citizen who was in Spain, came to Angola on the flight from Portugal on the 17th of this month. He is hospitalized at Clínica Girassol. The first two positive cases of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country were announced by the authorities on Saturday (21). They are two male Angolans, aged between 36 and 38 years old, who entered Angola on the 17th and 18th of this month, coming from Portugal.
The minister revealed that the National Institute for Health Research (INIS) had tested 169 suspected cases to date, of which three were positive. Most of the people tested are from Portugal. INIS, he said, has the capacity to process 91 samples per day. But, in recent times, it has had a daily average of four tests, given the number of people showing signs of Covid-19 infection.
The official stressed that, currently, two samples are awaiting laboratory results, which will soon be presented to the public in order to keep the population increasingly informed about the country’s epidemiological situation. The minister informed that, on the 20th of the current month, two more flights from the Portuguese cities of Porto and Lisbon arrived in the country.
All these passengers are already in institutionalized quarantine in the two centers of Calumbo, Viana municipality, and in two hotel units in the city of Luanda. In total, he said, 463 passengers from Portugal are in quarantine. Everyone is asymptomatic, but despite this, they will remain in quarantine until they complete the 14 days recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Sílvia Lutucuta admitted that, initially, there were some problems related to the logistics and places for the accommodation of the quarantined passengers.
