EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Lance Corporal Sylvester Gomez is held in custody after a shot on his colleague while on duties in the military guard post near Kanilai in the foni district of West Coast Region on Monday.
Samba Bah who is also a Lance Corporal is responding to treatment at the country’s main referral hospital, RVTH in Banjul. He sustained bullet wound on his thigh.
The Army Public Relation Officer, Major Lamin Sanyang described the shot as ‘negligent discharge’ which occurs among armed men once in a while. Looking at the procedure in personal gun handling, he said the barrel does not speak except by permission of its owner.
Although there is no ‘mistake’ in the military dictionary, he said, the fate of Gomez will now have to be determined by a board of inquiry into the incident.
