EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Music artist Killa Ace has been taken to the Police Headquarters in Banjul for a second night in custody for alleged involvement in protest within the Greater Banjul Areas in July. He was held with five others at the Kairaba Police Station on Sunday following their arrest by the police Anti-Crime Unit (ACU).
Eye Africa TV gathered on Sunday that a total of twenty youth have been charged for Wilful Damage for which they face prison term of two years on conviction.
No reason is given for the separation of the rapper from his colleagues but it is suggested that it is attempt to reduce number of visitors at the Kairaba police.
Our reporter who visited the detainees earlier, observed that the police was working hard to discourage public gathering at the station. It could however, not be verified as to whether the seemingly large number of people coming to the police are supporters of the rapper.
Police source who confirmed the number to Eye Africa TV on Sunday said that all the alleged protesters have been interrogated and their statements recorded. It added that charges of Wilful Damage have been pressed on them.
In the Gambia’s Criminal Code, a person who wilfully and unlawfully destroys or damages any property is liable on conviction to imprisonment for two years.
