Message from His Excellency Mr. Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, to the International Olympic Committee

Thank you, President Thomas Bach, dear friends of the IOC Executive Committee and the Olympic Movement, for your kind invitation.

I also thank the Argentine authorities for their welcome.

Senegal and its youth are proud of the honor you give us, entrusting our country with the organization of the Youth Olympic Games of 2022.

Your decision is a first in the history of Olympism. It honors our country and our continent.

That is why I want to pay tribute to Botswana, Nigeria and Tunisia, who submitted their candidatures at the same time as Senegal. Each of these brother countries would have deserved to host the Games.

In the end, it is all Africa, cradle of humanity by history and younger continent by its demography, which gives rendezvous to the sporting youth of the world in 2022.

I am delighted to know that in the Senegalese candidacy package, the IOC has taken into account the Emerging Senegal Plan (PSE), our strategy for economic and social development.

Youth remains at the heart of the PES; through education and training that value human capital; and the construction of infrastructure that gives every youngster a chance to realize his sporting potential.

This is the meaning of the National Arena and Dakar Arena, two modern and versatile sports complexes, one of which is built 30 km from Dakar, on the new urban pole of Diamniadio, which will house, with Dakar and the city. seaside of Saly, the competitions of 2022.

And before 2022, we will build a 50,000-seat Olympic stadium, in addition to the refurbishment of the 60,000-seat Leopold Sedar Senghor stadium.

I renew my warm congratulations to the team that has submitted the Senegalese candidacy, under the dynamic leadership of Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye, President of the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee. Thank you Diagna, for your excellent work!

The State and the three host cities of the Games will work together, in partnership with the IOC, to ensure that the 2022 meeting takes place in the best conditions.

In doing so, we keep in mind that, by the ideal of the Olympic Truce, sport is not limited to competition. Sport seeks to bring together and foster friendship and the peaceful coexistence of peoples for a better world. I know how much these ideals are dear to the Olympic Movement. They are also expensive in Senegal.

So, we can not wait to celebrate them with you in 2022; together with Senegalese youth; together with African youth; together with the youth of the world.

Citius, Altius, Fortius! Long live the Olympic movement!

Thank you.
