Killa Ace Denied Police Bail

EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Music artist Ali Cham popularly known as Killa Ace has been denied police bail, Eye Africa can report.

He was transferred to Banjul from the Kairaba Police Station where he was held along with five others following an operation by the Anti-Crime Unit that rounded up twenty people for allege involvement in a protest within Serrekunda last month.

The lawyer to the artist is expected to speak to the media shortly, in Banjul.

Killa Ace and co have been charged for Wilful Damage for which they face prison term of two years on conviction. The detainees have so far spent two nights in custody.

In the Gambia, it is by law that any person who is arrested or detained to be brought a court and, in any event, within seventy-two hours.

Waves of opposing views on the arrest of these activists is making rounds on social media. In one end, the Anti-Crime Unit stands condemned for detention of people who exercised their rights to protest. The move is however, commended by others who insist that protest has nothing to do with damage in properties.
