Journalist Sise Sawaneh and 2 others laid to rest

EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) reporter and Sarahuleh news presenter, Sise Sawaneh and the second vice president of the United Democratic Party (UDP) youth wing, Muhammed Papa Touray and brother Saikou Touray have been laid to rest Thursday afternoon at the Kanifing South cemetery.

The three died in a fatal car accident on Wednesday while traveling to Jarra Soma in the Lower River Region to attend a third division football final between a Sarahuleh team from Basse call Wagadugu and Jarra West.

A Muslim religious funeral services was conducted for the three of them at the Masjid Imam Malick along MDI road in Kanifing, where hundreds of people gathered to pay their last respects to them.

Gambia Press Union secretary general, Saikou Jammeh described Ms Sawaneh’s demise as a great loss to the country and the media industry, saying her professional approach to her duty should be an inspiration to all.

Five of them were reported to have been involved in the Wednesday accident in the outskirts of Masembeh in the Lower River Region. Officer in Charge at the Soma District Hospital confirmed that Sise Sawaneh and Muhammed Papa Touray arrived dead while Saikou Touray, who was the driver was taking his last breath. He said Buba Waggeh and Edrissa Touray have been referred to the country’s main referral hospital in Banjul.

United Democratic Party (UDP) members praised Muhammed Papa Touray as a true gentleman who always effectively maintains a steady execution of his responsibility, praying that Allah forgive them all and offer them a bountiful resting place in his Paradise.
