EYEAFRICA TV: Dakar, SÉNÉGAL:- Senegalese President Macky Sall has declared three days to mourn the death of eleven newborn babies killed in a hospital fire.

Beginning Thursday 26 May, the country’s flag will be lowered to half-mast as the country reacts to the tragic loss.

The fire at the maternity unit of Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh Hospital in the city of Tivaouane in Senegal killed eleven newborns.

A few hours later the President of the republic reacted to the incident by declaring three days of national mourning.

When the news broke families rushed to the hospital to find out if their babies had survived.

Some were not affected while some sink in grief.

The fire incident at the newly inaugurated hospital has sparked outcry and anger on social media in the country.

A preliminary investigation says the fire was triggered by a short circuit.

A similar incident took place last year in the northern town of Linguere, a fire broke out at a hospital and four newborn babies were killed.

An electrical malfunction in an air conditioning unit in the maternity ward.
