EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: A one-time local government and lands minister in Gambia’s former President Yahya Jammeh’s government has denied any knowledge about allocation of a land to Mr. Jammeh as a special birthday gift in 2009.
Testifying before the Commission of Inquiry that was established in July last year to probe into the financial activities of public bodies, enterprises and offices as regards to their dealings with Mr. Jammeh, Ismaila Kabba Sambou said he worked under the exiled former president between 2005 and 2010.
Mr. Sambou identified a letter purportedly with his signature in connection to the allocation of the land situated at Fajara water tank along Atlantic road with measurement 102m by 91m square when it was read and shown to him by the Commission’s lawyer Amie Bensouda.
But he argued that he has never signed a document bearing the allocation of land as a birthday present to Ex-president Jammeh.
The letter was said to be written to give directive from the then Minister at that time to the Permanent Secretary and later minuted to the Director of Lands and Survey for onward action to be taken.
