EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Government of The Gambia has denied rumors that the country will not be hosting next year’s Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), stating that if the rumor were true, it would have release a statement. “Gambia is still willing and stands ready to host the conference and nothing has changed in that,” Saikou Ceesay, press officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

A youth activist MamaLinguere Sarr posted on her social media Facebook wall on January 29 stating that State House has issued a directive to the Foreign Affairs Ministry to inform the OIC that The Gambia will not host the Summit anymore next year. Our Statehouse source say the Presidential palace is pretty shaky.

In September last year, President Barrow laid the foundation stone of a 50 million dollar conference center which was funded by the government of China.

When completed, the center would provide sitting capacity of up 1,000 conference participants with four conference halls, one VIP room, four press rooms, 14 meeting rooms, offices, banquet halls and entertainment spaces. It is also expected to host the OIC conference next year
