ECOMIC Soldier Dies In The Gambia

EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Gambian President Adama Barrow has acknowledged news of death of Nigerian soldier in the ECOWAS Military Intervention in The Gambia (ECOMIC).

In a statement from the office of the president stated that Sergeant Chief Bamidele AKINWALE was reported to have passed away on Thursday, although the cause of his death wasn’t communicated.

ECOMIC is a military intervention to support the restoration of democracy following the Gambia’s political earthquake which showed the collapse the government of Yahya Jammeh in 2016.

Away from the resistance of ECOMIC presence which led to the death of one Haruna Jatta, and the shooting on Gambian soldiers by the ECOMIC all in Kanilai, hometown of the former president in 2017, the ECOWAS contingent operates in a clear civilian mood for over two years now.

The President sent condolences to the family of the Nigerian soldier and thanked him for “his bravery and dedication to peace and security in The Gambia and the subregion.”
