EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Faraba Banta residence who were arrested in connection with their community’s Monday class with personnel of the Police Intervention Unit ( PIU ) have been released from from custody early Wednesday morning.
New reports indicates that the third victim of the Monday shooting who was identified as Amadou Jawo has died early Wednesday morning bringing the total deaths to three.
Police said on Tuesday evening that they have arrested some civilians including Ousman Jassey, Sunkaru Jarju, Bakary Badjie, Salifu Darboe and Modou Kujabi and efforts were underway to grant them bail.
President Adama Barrow Monday visited the victims who were injured in the incident at the country’s teaching hospital in Banjul where he condemned the killing and promised that his government would investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice. He has since given order for their release.
In a Tuesday evening update, Police said they have arrested five officers and suspend their services in connection with the shooting that led to the death of two people. They also said investigations have been launched into the issue.
Update from the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) stated that two field commanders, Spt. Baboucarr Cham and Assistant Spt. Musa Fatty and three other ranks – Nuha Colley, Momodou S. Jallow and Musa Badjie were arrested and currently under detention.
